I'm starting to wonder how much vitamin C and acid reflux are related.
From what I've learned, many foods containing Vitamin C can encourage gastric acid secretion.
Even worse, supplements containing large amounts of Vitamin C agitate acid reflux to a further degree.
I am a big believer in preventative measures and I use a Vitamin C supplement all the time. It is also a great anti-oxidant and I use it after workouts to keep my immune system strong.
I'm starting to wonder if the Vitamin C I'm taking before bed may be causing my acid reflux and cough attacks that I sometimes get at night.
I have been using vitamin C tablets (500mg) after each meal. I always have one before bed.
Since learning this new information about the possible correlation between acid reflux and vitamin C, I am going to try an experiment to see if there is validity to what I've been learning.
I don't want to have to cut this valuable antioxidant from my supplement regime, so I'm going to start by cutting out vitamin C at the last meal before bedtime to see if it makes a difference with my GERD symptoms or not.
What do I have to lose. I'm probably taking more V-C than I need, so I'm sure the experiment won't hurt.
Anyways, I'll post my vitamin C and acid reflux experiment results after I have given things a try for a couple of weeks.
